We continue our festive journey through the mound of stand up titles this Christmas with the release of Jon Richardson’s new DVD FUNNY MAGNET, a laugh out loud stand up show which ticks all the boxes for a stand up fan like myself.

If you don’t really know much about Jon Richardson he is one of the team captains on Channel 4’s 8 OUT OF TEN CATS and a regular on MOCK THE WEEK where he adds his own strange yet funny twist to everyday events, which is why this stand up DVD is so, so funny. Unlike other stand up comedians, who you can debate whether or not they have actually done the things they have done; you can actually picture Richardson getting annoyed about his housemates not recycling or his extreme OCD.

Richardson is a brilliant comedian and he stands strong at the top of this year’s releases, even over doing the likes of Michael McIntyre and Peter Kay. If you are going to pick any stand up DVD this year make this one of them.

<![CDATA[Rhod Gilbert: The Man With The Flaming Batternberg Tattoo - Rating: * * * * *]]>Tue, 20 Nov 2012 14:47:29 GMThttp://snakebitehorror.weebly.com/19/post/2012/11/rhod-gilbert-the-man-with-the-flaming-batternberg-tattoo-rating.html
It’s that time of year folks! It is the run up to Christmas and we all know that this means the release of the best of 2012’s stand-up comedy DVDs. So far we have reviewed the latest Peter Kay title LIVE AND BACK ON NIGHTS and now we are turning our focus on Rhod Gilbert’s new title THE MAN WITH THE FLAMING BATTENBERG TATTOO.

I have seen Rhod a few times on TV, he is one of those hit and miss comedians in my eyes however I thought I would give him a really try this time round. I will admit I wasn’t sure if I was about to walk into a comedy car crash or stumble upon some comedy gold, but I was pleasantly surprised with Gilbert’s latest outing. The show actually made me laugh out loud, something only a handful of comedians can make me do (normally I chuckle to myself you see). Basically Gilbert focuses on three overall things, his time in anger management, his explosive relationship with his girlfriend and why he ended up getting a tattoo of some Battenberg on a pillow surrounded with flames on this shoulder. From this we get some hilarious stories, one of my favourites being the Toothbrush his girlfriend got him as his MAIN Christmas present and his argument with a Tesco manager regarding a Jacket Potato.

I loved this show! It will be one that I will bring out several times in the following years along with Jimmy Carr and Ross Noble and goes to show that we here in the UK have some of the BEST comedy talents in the whole world.

Extras wise we have Rhod vs Hecklers where we get to see a few bits that were not shown on the original cut and the episode on Rhod Gilbert: Work Experience where he gets his tattoo.

Make this a top choice for you Christmas list from Santa folks!

<![CDATA[Peter Kay Live & Back On Nights - Rating: * * * *]]>Fri, 02 Nov 2012 13:45:27 GMThttp://snakebitehorror.weebly.com/19/post/2012/11/peter-kay-live-back-on-nights-rating.html
After one of the biggest stand up tours ever! We are taken behind the scenes on Peter Kay’s Tour that didn't Tour, Tour in this very entertaining PETER KAY LIVE AND BACK ON NIGHTS. Filmed throughout his two year run that ended last year we get to see some of the best bits from his tour dates around the country and get an insight of Peter Kay’s day to day routine.

When it comes to Peter Kay you pretty much know what you are getting is going to be funny. The man is a bloody comedy genius which is made better by the fact he doesn't tour year in year out. His material is top class and it is always great to see that he isn't using the same old jokes or profanity (like a certain Lee Evans) to be popular. This DVD shows Peter Kay in such a good light. You can tell he is a nice guy just by seeing him talk and you know he is humble about it. Kay tells of his time working in the Manchester theater where his tour starts and finishes and he walks the viewer through 90 minutes without you realizing that the times has gone. I LOVE the camera on the crowd bits he does for every show! It shows how random people can be when a camera is pointed at them.

PETER KAY LIVE & BACK ON NIGHTS was an easy watch, with some laugh out loud moments that had me in tears of laughter. If you are a Peter Kay fan you MUST go out and buy this DVD and if you aren’t a fan BUY IT ANYWAY!

<![CDATA[Kevin Smith Live: Too Fat For 40 - Rating: * * * * *]]>Fri, 20 Jan 2012 17:01:36 GMThttp://snakebitehorror.weebly.com/19/post/2012/01/toofatfor40.html
Now I’m not a huge fan of American stand up, i think the only US stand up i have ever enjoyed watching was Robin Williams’ two stand up shows, but as a lover of cinema and hearing that this isn’t your usual kind of stand up show i thought i would finally give Kevin Smith a try.

First off let me talk about the value for money side of this stand up show. I find with alot of UK stand-up comedy you will get an hour long show which starts and ends so quickly you feel you have wasted the £15 you have just spent, The only real exception being Ross Noble who gives you a very long show plus several other shows in the DVD set and this is why i enjoyed TOO FAT FOR 40. Kevin Smith gives you 3 full hours of stand up which doesn’t get old and at the price this show is being sold at i would be very happy to buy this full price.

TOO FAT FOR 40 is no usual stand-up show. We are treated to 3 hours into to the mind of Kevin Smith who has many a tale to tell. More like a Q&A with comedy TOO FAT FOR 40 see Smith going into detail about his Experience with Southwest Airlines and being classed as too fat to fly to his days with Bruce Willis on the set of Smith’s film COP OUT, which left me in hysterics. But the thing about the show is, as a film fan, Smith’s tales are actually really cool to listen to and the fact that his stories are funny is just a brilliant extra bonus.

My Favourite stories had to be for one his back stage stories involving Bruce Willis but i was laughing out loud when he was suspected for kidnapping when people overheard smith playing the first ten minutes of FROM DUSK TILL DAWN.

Without giving much away the show is a laugh riot. If you pick any stand-up show you must go out and buy TOO FAT FOR 40.
