Anchor Bay have released new poster artwork for THE DEAD ahead on the UK cinema release on September 2nd a month ahead of the US debut in October.

Directed by The Ford Brothers (who I interviewed at last year's FrightFest event) THE DEAD is a zombie film take doesn't follow the same pattern as the more modern zombie film. THE DEAD is a apocalyptic, savage journey to the heart of Africa – where life and death is far from black and white.

During the film of THE DEAD the Ford brothers we meet with many life threatening problems, as producer/director Howard  Ford reveals:  “We encountered real death on a daily basis and were held up at gun point several times, met real cannibals, got arrested and lead actor Rob Freeman very nearly died after contracting Malaria in the middle of filming.”

At this years FrightFest the festival welcomes back The Ford Brothers for a very special screening of the film which will include a live commentary where the duo will watch their film alongside the audience, divulging all the gory details on how they brought their living dead saga to the screen.

I found the script to be powerful, dynamic and fast paced. Chee is a great young director with a lot of talent and I believe a big career ahead of him and he reminds me of my early days and collaboration with my good friend Robert Rodriguezand I am very keen to be involved with the next generation of independent filmmakers who can deliver something new and fresh to fans and I feel with both Chee and Zombie Apocalypse we have something truly exciting and special.”

Executive Producer, Kevin Eastman, (Pictured left) describes why he decide to come on board: “I’m a big action and zombie fan and I'm really excited Chee asked me to be part of the film. When Chee showed me the script and told me what he wanted to do with it, I just thought it was awesome.I think what’s interesting is Chee’s taken the best elements of all the zombie films I'd ever seen and turned it on its ear by adding this element of mixed martial arts to it. I think it’s going to be new, fresh and what he’s going to do with it is exceptional. I love Chee's vision and style and honestly believe Chee is a part of the ‘next wave’ of new directors that will take the genre-based medium I thrive in to newer and greater heights! We’re really excited about launching the first promotional campaign for Zombie Apocalypse at Comic Con.”

British-Chinese writer, director and producer, Chee Keong Cheung’s last film was the action/drama, Bodyguard: A New Beginning, which was filmed in the UK and Hong Kong and released through Lionsgate in North America.

Chee had this to say: “I’m incredibly excited and very honoured to be working with both Carlos and Kevin on the production. Their work speaks for itself, both having had incredible success with the franchises they’ve created. They’ve been hugely inspirational. Having been fascinated by zombie and war films I felt a fusion of the two, combined with martial arts, would provide a unique experience for film fans, and the opportunity for a unique action-packed event movie and Carlos and Kevin’s formidable experience in successful genre movies will help me realise that vision. I have profound respect for both the action and zombie genres and I hope to really thrill fans with the approach I have planned. We have some very exciting talent attached that we hope to announce soon and rest assured that every second of screen time is going to be dedicated to delivering what genre fans deserve. I’m also excited to confirm that Carlos Gallardo will not only act as an Executive Producer but will also be joining the cast as one of the as one of the eight Elite Special Forces Soldiers in the movie”

Horror Grindhouse has made its way to the fiction market as award winning horror writer Gary Charles releases his new book Tranquil Disturbances Published from KHP Publishers.
Tranquil Disturbances consists of two stories Tranquil and Death Tide. Even though the stories are very much different Charles has used his love of late 70's and early 80's fiction to pay homage to this era which he helps by using lyrics from AC/DC tracks and having the original AC/DC Lead singer, Dave Evans appear  on the cover of the book.

Tranquil:
A ruthless motorcycle gang overruns the quiet, secluded town of Tranquillity. While placing
their injured own in the care of an unsuspecting citizen, they soon discover the eerie origins of the
tight-knit community, and the sinister divinity that lies within the sacred chapel…

Death Tide:
A tide of apocalyptic proportions bears down on the village of Westow. While near the shore,
a research team is busy testing a brutal cross-species virus on an involuntary human subject. When
the deluge hits full force and the manufactured infection becomes uncontained, the water poses an
even deadlier threat. Before long the locals are battling a death tide of bloodthirsty animals and
humans alike.

                                                        EXCERPT
Dr. Lazarus moved with practiced precision, taking a scalpel from the trolley and leaning over
Brennan’s chest as Armstrong looked on. Brennan didn’t even flinch as the doctor went to work,
making over a dozen tiny incisions across the pale flesh.
Once finished, Lazarus dropped the scalpel back on the trolley, the tip coated in bright red.
The doctor then pulled a second trolley nearer to the operating table. Sat on the trolley was a clear
plastic case containing a large black rat. The vermin glared at Lazarus with pustule-encrusted eyes,
the crimson bulges seeping tallow into the surrounding fur.
Lazarus picked up the box and the rat hissed at him, rearing up on its back legs and scratching
at the plastic with its front paws. Armstrong watched with a childlike fascination as the doctor set
the case on Brennan’s chest and secured it in place with four heavy-duty straps.
Dr. Lazarus smiled. “Shall we begin?

There has also been mention of a possible DEATH TIDE screenplay going into
development.

The Variety website reports that BEREAVEMENT and PERCY JACKSON star Alexandra Daddario has joined the cast of the upcoming The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D which will be directed By Takers director John Lussenhop.

Daddario will play the leading role of Heather, who along with a group of friends, travel to Texas to collect her inheritance, the twist being her inheritance is Leatherface. Rumor has it that Daddario has been signed up to appear in more Leatherface sequels as Lionsgate are looking to create a new franchise of Chainsaw films.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D will be a direct sequel of Tobe Hooper's 1973 original (I am guessing they will forget the other sequels then) picking up decades after the first group of teens unexpectedly enter Leatherface's home.
