_After making a buzz at Film4 FrightFest Glasgow earlier this year, THE RAID will be hitting our screens this May. Now I haven't seen THE RAID yet, i am still waiting for my review disk to come in the post, but from the look of the trailer it is an action packed free for all. Check out the Synopsis below:

Deep in the heart of one of Jakarta’s most deprived slums stands an impenetrable high-rise apartment block. To most it is 30 floors of Hell to be avoided at all cost but for many of the city’s most dangerous killers and gangsters, including the area’s most notorious crime lord, it is a fortress-like safe house protecting them from the law. Even for the bravest and most experienced police officers it is considered a no-go area.

In a desperate bid to flush these violent criminals and their leader from their haven once and for all, an elite SWAT team is tasked with infiltrating the building and raiding the apartments floor by floor, taking out anyone who stands in their way. Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness, the SWAT members make their move and enter the block not realizing that this is the easier part of the mission. Once inside, it soon becomes terrifyingly apparent that the real problem at hand is surviving long enough to be able to get out again.

The season kicks off with the genre classic, George Romero’s NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. It’s 1968 and America watches horrified as grimy black and white news footage from Vietnam reveals the true monsters in this world – us. It was this political backdrop that spurred Romero to make his ground-breaking movie, harnessing the horror of watching a national disaster unfold on the news – before it comes knocking on your own front door.

13th April @ 22.55 – STAG NIGHT OF THE DEAD (2011)  *UK TV PREMIERE
A mix of ‘The Hangover’ with ‘Night of the Living Dead’ is how Neil Jones’ sexy zomedy STAG NIGHT OF THE DEAD has been described. Stag nights are messy affairs at the best of times, but in this movie party tricks go beyond leaving your best mate naked on the M4 – as the Stags sign up for a dodgy game of Zombal at a shady military base. Naturally, a stripper comes along for the ride.

13th of April  @ 00:55 - CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD (1980)

Will they find a way to stop the rotting hordes before everyone in town gets devoured? Flesh-splattered zombie insanity from the King of Euro-Terror.

27th April @ 22:55 – APOCALYPSE OF THE DEAD (2009)  *UK TV PREMIERE
Shot in Serbia, lending it a real political edge. Director Milan Todorovic says his ‘biohazard zombie thriller’. Was inspired by the dire ecological situation in his hometown. Definitely a film for zombie aficionados as it stars the now legendary Ken Foree – who found fame in George Romero’s hugely influential Dawn of the Dead – here he is in action as Agent Reyes.

27th April @ 00.50 – DEAD HEIST (2007)   *UK TV PREMIERE
The final UK TV premiere in the Season of the Dead blends a traditional bank heist movie with zombies, with a bit of hip hop thrown in for good measure. Directed by Bo Webb, the film stars Big Daddy Kane – one of the most influential golden age rappers, who puts in a memorable performance as Hunter – a mysterious bad boy and something of an expert on zombie scum.

For some horror fans Remakes are classed as the ultimate evil, with so many fanboys and fangirls out there it is hard to find a good word to be said of the likes of remakes such as A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, ROB ZOMBIE’S HALLOWEEN or even one of my highlights of 2012 PIRANHA 3D. I’m not one of these people and I am happy to say all three of the above movies entertained me a lot but it was PIRANHA 3D that I enjoyed the most. I LOVED the throwback to the old school style of camp splatter horror of the 80’s and 90’s, SO when I heard that we were getting PIRANHA 3DD I was chomping at the bit to see the trailer. Below is the very thing I have been waiting months to see and with PIRANHA 3DD hitting the big screen in April you don’t have long to wait. ALSO the Hoff in 3D!!

We love our foreign horror here at Snakebite horror, with most of our top rated films being from outside of the US and UK and it looks like we aren't the only ones. Trinity X have now acquired the German Slasher flick BREAK, a brutal cat and mouse horror thriller which follows the backwoods style of slasher.

BREAK will be hitting the shops on April 16th, and from the stills (which can be found below) i am pretty damn excited about it.

Four young girlfriends head out to the Canadian woods for some downtime. But downtime turns to terror time when they discover a pile of intestines and a pair of severed feet dangling from a tree. The friends begin to realise humans are the preferred prey and that they are being hunted. Armed with bows and arrows, two brutal rednecks are on the rampage and the girls’ blood-soaked battle for survival begins.

Directed by Matthias Olof Eich, this brutal game of sadistic cat-and-mouse between the sexes goes to the extreme.

IDF have today announced that they have begun principal photography of SHADOW director Federico Zampaglione’s new film TULPA.

Claudia Gerini (THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST) stars as Lisa Boeri, a successful businesswoman who, by night, enters the notorious sex club ‘Tulpa’ in search of dangerous forms of pleasure. When her lovers start getting murdered in, to avoid a personal scandal, she tries to deal with it herself with truly nightmare consequences.

TULPA also stars Michele Placido (Romanzo Criminale) alongside Nuot Arquint (Shadow) and Michela Cescon (Sacred Heart).

Federico, who is described as Italy’s Rob Zombie, said today: “I'm very excited to start shooting TULPA, but I’m aware it’s a very difficult film to make, I need to maintain a constant creepy and oppressive atmosphere and the violence is actually very, very graphic”
_A seven-minute teaser clip, recently shown at FrightFest Glasgow, and we have been told by the boys at the fest that it was greeted with enthusiastic applause, which for Federico, following on from the international success of his first feature Shadow, increases the pressure on him.

“I have to prove myself. It's a real challenge but I’ll do my best to give new blood to the Italian Gialllo genre".

Could this be a future Film4 FrightFest title? Maybe for 2013 or even for Glasgow 2013? Time will tell but we here at Snakebite are very excited.
